Construction site update weeks 11–12
Ground and foundation works continue at the construction site of the Kaskia Wellbeing Block. However, no blasting will be carried out during the next three weeks. Injection works continue.
According to the current estimate, the next blasting works will take place no earlier than week 14. Most of the blasting work has already been completed.
– Drilled piling continues on both sides of the construction site according to plan. According to the current estimate, piling works will be completed by the end of April, says site manager Matti Koivu from Lujatalo.
The most visible work phase at the site during week 10 is the installation of the tower crane. The tall crane may attract attention, but the work is carried out according to carefully planned safety procedures.
– The crane operates in a controlled manner within the construction site area and does not lift loads over neighbouring properties. The work is carried out by experienced professionals and all safety regulations are followed, Koivu explains.
Demolition and construction work
Indoors, construction work continues in parallel with demolition work in both the former hospital building and the Tower building.
Most of the demolition work has already been completed, but demolition continues in phases in different parts of the buildings to ensure the work is carried out safely.
The construction site and building works are continuously monitored by various experts. The City of Turku Building Control Authority also supervises the project and visits the site regularly. In addition, other external experts monitor the different stages of construction.
Next construction phases
According to the current estimate, structural works for the parking hall will begin in early summer.
– In autumn, the project is expected to reach the stage where construction of the new extension to the health centre can begin, Koivu says.
