Construction site update for weeks 19–20

The Kaskia wellbeing block construction site has entered a phase where foundation works, structural construction and renovation of existing buildings are progressing in parallel.

– Several work phases are ongoing simultaneously, which is typical for a project of this nature. The work is progressing according to plan, says site manager Matti Koivu from Lujatalo.

In the parking facility area, foundation works have begun on the Sirkkalankatu side. Drilled piling has progressed well, and the majority of the piles have already been installed. Piling, anchoring and excavation works continue in the area, along with finishing works in the bedrock. Bedrock sealing is ongoing, and the structures in the parking facility are largely watertight. Foundation structures are progressing step by step across the area. Next, the sheet pile wall on the Itäinen Pitkäkatu side will be completed.

At the tower building, the removal of the old façade plaster is ongoing, and approximately 85% of the windows have already been replaced. Several work phases are carried out simultaneously in the building, including internal sealing and structural renewal. Rendering works will begin in the next phase.

In the section of the social and health centre under renovation, demolition works continue in phases while structural construction progresses. The work is gradually moving into a stage where new structures are being built in place of the old ones.

Blasting works

The final blasting works in the courtyard area facing Kaskenkatu are currently estimated to take place towards the end of week 20. Blasting and the removal of excavated rock may cause temporary noise and vibration.

Current

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Kaskia wellbeing block was held at the site on 29 April 2026.

The following works will be initiated next:

  • rendering works at the tower building
  • base filling works in the parking facility

We thank local residents for their patience during the construction works.
